Fashion Week Flashback: Nolcha's Grand Finale

Fashion Week Flashback: Nolcha’s Grand Finale

I’m excited to share more of Nolcha‘s Ones To Watch during the Fall/Winter 2014 Fashion Week in New York. The art form of fashion is incredible and has the ability to spread messages globally. These designers hit that target and transformed their voices through their creations.

At the final show of the day, things got a little weird in a good way.

Meet Dany Tabet!

Strutting his vision for the 3rd time with Nolcha, Dany Tabet showcased the “Crystal Warrior.” The Lebanese designer begun his show by talking to his audience to deliver a message.

My message is peace to the whole world from my country.

Dany Tabet addresses the political unfortunates that have caused war in our lives and hearts. He reminds us all of the peace and love we can achieve together. In his collection, he showcases his love for crystals and his admiration for beautiful strong female power, the warrior within.

His style, vision, and performance is a combination of everyday influences. His imagination has no boundaries and its how he makes his dreams come true.

Street is this huge runway we hit everyday….Some people walk on sidewalk others on red carpets, both are stimulation to my eyes, brain, and imagination.

Meet Jungwon!

The designer behind Jungwon is June Sohn. Her influence stems from being a true New Yorker!

Living in New York City and all of my experiences serve as my influence, in addition to traditional Korean customs.

Her collection reminds me of Nanette Lepore meets New York style, comfort, and weather. Her brand philosophy is “The One Jacket You Need in NYC!”

I saw many high performance outerwear jackets in the specialty stores for serious outdoor wear, but they were not for my everyday work clothes. As a designer working in the city, I needed a great look. I needed more than just rain coat or wind breaker. I looked for outerwear that I could wear regardless of the destination but it was so hard and my patience ran out. I stopped looking and started designing one for myself.

Meet Gabriella Arruda!

Gabrielle Arruda style left an impression on me! She has a elegant way of bringing the youth back into fashion. Her style speaks to the modern and ambitious woman!

My inspiration for this new collection was moths and butterflies- their ability to cross breed, the veins on their wings; and even moths ability to create silk via silk worms (a form of moth) and destroy textiles by consuming wool- the theme of destruction versus production.

Meet Nina Athanasiou!

Backstage I spoke with Nina Athanasiou ……..

Nina opened with a video that set a sexual and intriguing tone. When the first model stepped onto the catwalk, I felt my body covered in goosebumps as the audience’s applause carried over the soundtrack. The designer created a unique effect, and with each piece the show became a story with each model representing a page.

To me, fashion is a means of communication.

The girls rock the famous Afro which Marc Jacobs made so famous at last year’s Fashion Week. Her influence for this collection is an attention grabber and she delivers it well!

Some details were inspired by earlier folkloric costumes of the Balkans, others however from typical uniforms of the Ninja and samurai’s fighters or even the geisha’s. Predominant are clear shapes and strong silhouettes, supplemented and rounded off by delicate and intricate details.
