A Breakdown of ECOSOC, The Youth Forum, SDG & #Youth2030 at the United Nations

I arrived at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC in awe. Not because of where I stood, which let’s be clear here, the grounds of the UN is technically its own country — I was in awe at the enormous crowd of youths lined up to pick up their day-passes. The lines stretched avenues and corners, it was pretty epic. It set a strong tone for what I was to expect covering the United Nations ECOSOC Youth Forum, thanks to the SDG Media Zone, to achieve all 17 Global Goals by 2030.

But first, you may wonder, what those 3 things I mentioned even are …

#Youth2030 is ↓

The role of youth in building sustainable and resilient urban and rural communities – #YOUTH2030.

What is ECOSOC Youth Forum?

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum provides a platform for the youth to engage in a dialogue with Member States and to discuss the policy frameworks and promote innovative, institutionalised approaches and initiatives for advancing the youth development agenda at national, regional and global levels with a view to promoting solutions to the global challenge of strengthening resilience and sustainable development.

What is SDG Media Zone↓

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

These 17 Goals build on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals, while including new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities. The goals are interconnected – often the key to success on one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another.

What matters is implementation. Implementation. Implementation speaks youth rep, Christian.

The world is changing and amazing things are happening in hopes for a world that unites us. A world where we are not blinded by our differences, but more knowledgeable and understanding for it. It’s an honor to be a part of this.
