Celebrating Women Behind the Seams during NYFW at Milk Studios │A Lifetime Production

Women Behind the Seams celebrates the diverse range of personalities that make up the backbone of the fashion industry.

Photographed by Christelle de Castro and displayed during NYFW at Milk Studios → I witnessed something beautiful in the making. I believe in the power of team — that to achieve greatness is done as “we.” Never I.

This NYFW17 season, the industry has taken it one step further than the runway. Showing you the backbone to the shows. What I love seeing is appreciation — it’s inspiring because it’s about uplifting one another to the top. I belive that it is the only way we can reach great heights. Together ♥

We need to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves. We have to step up as women and take the lead.

The project is part of a greater effort from Lifetime to play a larger role in cultural conversations, increase its presence in the fashion world and change the way women are represented in media. The exhibit, titled “Behind the Seams,” was commissioned by Lifetime. It showcases some of the women who are responsible for the behind-the-scenes of fashion week — cobblers, manicurists and security guards, to name a few.

Across fashion week, everybody focuses on the incredible clothes and the incredible designers… We wanted to really highlight the stories of possibility around the women who are the architects, who are the people that support and drive those incredible designers and those ones that don’t really get talked about and aren’t mentioned.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Women have to harness their power – it’s absolutely true. It’s just learning not to take the first no. And if you can’t go straight ahead, you go around the corner.

Women Behind the Seams is a powerful movement … starting with appreciation that brings to life the faces behind scenes.
