Nerai: Go for the Authentic Greek Food - Leave With a Painting from Greece

Nerai: Go for the Authentic Greek Food – Leave With a Painting from Greece

A well known and authentic Greek restaurant, Nerai, has recently launched its own art exhibition showcasing original paintings from Greece. In an effort to uplift its Grecian roots, Nerai aspires to give a variety of professional Greek artists the chance to exhibit their work to share the artistic side of Greek culture and traditions with its diners.

The idea of Nerai organizing this art exhibition, with the participation of artists from Greece, was because the artists in Greece are one of the most vulnerable groups of people in a country hit by a severe economic crisis over the last six years. The state has no funds to support the art community, which results in talented artists abandoning their trade. Nerai’s first periodic exhibition starts by presenting masterpieces of the Greek photographer Andreas Theologitis and Greek painter Petros Santos.

Andreas is a renown photographer living in Athens, with a background as an architect-urban planner who studied and worked in Brussels — participating in numerous large projects in Greece and abroad. His photographs reflect his love for details, materials, and textures.

According to his belief; the level of abstraction opens, for everyone, the world for personal interpretation. At Nerai three of his professional photographs are exhibited. You can see more on Andreas website and Facebook page.

The second artist is Petros Santos who has taken up painting in the last ten years. Until then he created and decorated some of the most renowned fashion shops in Athens-Greece, where he now resides after living for 20 years in England. He does not usually collaborate with galleries preferring to creating his own exhibition space according to the particular cycle of work and its theme.

He believes that the artist’s work has to live on its own without forcing the viewer to follow the artist’s vision — therefore all of his work is painted in such a way that the viewer can discover new things always by hanging and looking at the painting either vertically or horizontally.

Mostly he uses acrylic colours with unique varnishes diluted in liquid glass allowing the painting to look wet without losing its texture. His work has found its way to many private collections and homes in London, Ireland, Rome, Paris and Greece.
