If you’re Persian or in any way admire the Iranian world of songs and poems — then the name Shohreh Solati means something to you — she’s an icon for Persian women and a living legend — The Queen Of Persian Pop Music — She is also who I was named after, that’s right, you may know me as ‘Gina’ or call me by my last name ‘Doost’ but my birth certificate, the name my father gave me, is Shohreh. Yes he was a fan — but I think he was also a believer. The name itself, Shohreh (Persian: شهره‎‎), means “famous”. She was born Fatemeh Solati in Tehran, Iran but chose to use the name ‘Shohreh’ while rising and soaring! Obstacles have come and gone — since the Islamic Revolution in Iran, she has continued her music career in exile and achieved acclaim for her contribution to Iranian music.

 … and today is her birthday!

She’s a star and in many ways defined a more empowering stereotype to Iranian women.

As a woman, she set a tone for self respect, beauty, and talent. She paved the way many have followed, and because of it she continues to make a positive impact in today’s world. So to a living legend I say
