3 Ways in Finding Your Holiday Happy!

3 Ways in Finding Your Holiday Happy!

Hi, friends!

The holiday are approaching so quickly and I can’t believe that this year is almost over! I was thinking of things I’d like to write about for WTD?!, and I realized I had enough ideas to make a little series of posts. I decided to theme it around staying happy during the holidays, because although they are supposed to be the most joyous time of the year, many people struggle during these last two months. I myself have been one of them, and this time I’m determined to keep pursuing what keeps me feeling uplifted!

Something that’s become a priority again for me recently is trying to be more healthy. For a while earlier this year, I was incredibly active and was at the gym 3-5 times a week. I was cooking a lot at home and taking simple but tasty lunches with me to work. But life got in the way as it does for many of us, and I completely fell off the wagon after being laid off from my last job. I stopped going to the gym and stopped making my own food. And in three months alone, I’ve gained 15lbs, can’t fit into any of my pants (okay, I can still fit into about four pairs of jeans and that’s only because they have Spandex in them!), and have no stamina whatsoever. I’m slowly working my way back up to making more healthy choices, especially with the holidays arriving. Here are a few of my little changes that have been helping me!

  1. Drink all of the water! This seems like a no brainer, but a lot of people just do not drink enough fluids throughout the day. For me, drinking the suggested amount of water helps in so many ways – my skin looks better, my sleep patterns are more regular, and I just feel better overall. It’s a win-win-win.
  2. Get your fiber in! Along with drinking more water, fiber just helps you function at full capacity. When you introduce a bunch of unusual food items that are often heavy and full of sugar during the holidays, it can totally throw your digestive system out of whack. If you prep with a fiber-filled diet, you shouldn’t have to worry.
  3. Get moving, no matter what! Find something you enjoy doing, and sneak just even a little bit in. Even just that little bit of activity can help keep you on track. I went into a phase of absolutely no physical activity for several weeks, and now I’m suffering because I can’t wear a lot of my favorite clothes. I wouldn’t have thought it’d happen that fast! Find a buddy to take a walk with. Hit the nearest gym on your lunch break for a quick 15-minute treadmill walk. Bundle up and take that puppy for a walk anyway.
