The famous UNESCO world heritage site called Handelskade is so vibrant in culture and color that I couldn’t resist but to wander over to the eastside of Willemstad, Punda — which means “point.” As the old city center, it is a fun place to explore!
We parked at De Gouverneur, since we were about to have lunch there, we jumped on the ferry that leaves every 10 minutes. Much of the time, you can simply walk across the unique moving bridge that opens and closes to let ships in and out.
This lead us to Curacao’s well talked about floating markets. The markets are all lined up on the dock and although you’re not actually floating, the produce behind the stands are — floating on boats!
Everything was so fresh! We bought a coconut and watched as it got chopped open. We drank SO MUCH fresh coconut water! With this particular one, an interesting thing happened; one of the locals working the stand called us over and offered a passion fruit, he asked if he could mix the coconut in and we didn’t opposeツ it was delicious!
We had a total tourist moment as well, a lovely couple took our photo and Jeff took theirs!
