Bhatti: The King of Curry Hill

Bhatti: The King of Curry Hill

In the heart of New York’s Murray Hill lives some of the best and most authentic North Indian cuisine you can get and because of that it’s known as “Curry Hill.” Recently, the WtD team was invited to Bhatti. An establishment so far beyond its reputation that the wait for seating goes around the block at times, and with the best of flavors and hospitality, it’s no surprise that it’s worth the wait.

BHUNNEY ALOO KE KULHEY: Potatoes stuffed w/ cottage cheese, spices & fresh herbs, grilled

If you like your night on a more adventurous side, I highly recommend selecting a couple must have dishes off the menu then letting the staff/chef choose the rest for you. MUST: Let them know if you have any dietary restrictions.

We let the staff know that our group included a gluten free gentleman, a vegetarian lady, and two meat and bread lovers. Because of this, chef Nishant Sharma, prepared one of India’s most popular snacks for us, the Bhelpuri, which is off the menu. Entranced with rich flavors, potatoes, chick peas, mint, chutney, and tamarind this dish is an insider’s delight!

I highly recommend getting the grilled meat platter, unless you’re vegetarian or vegan of course. I usually just stick to one kind but with this, my taste palette experienced a whole new world. Thanks to the recommendations of the staff and chef of course!

Some of my most favorite people in the world have a far better and healthier diet restriction, whether it’s allergies or preference, what goes into your body matters. And while I like to keep it balanced, it’s important to dine with company who has as many options on the menu as you do.

I love dining out with my good friend Wawa Dessou, who is a vegetarian and her presence had me smiling from ear to ear. This is exactly how I want my company to feel when I recommend a place. According to Wawa:

Goodness gracious what an amazing meal! Upon arriving to Bhatti Indian Grill, I was greeted by a friendly man who served me a glass of water in a cute mason jar. From that moment, I felt welcomed into their home. As a vegetarian; I often find it quite easy to make my food selection, as there is usually one option on the menu. To my surprise, Bhatti offered an entire page of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options.

Two of my favorites were the mushroom butter masala and the saag paneer. Each had the perfect amount of savory Indian spices, not too salty, perfectly portioned and paired well with the homemade garlic naan. Not only is the food delicious, but the staff members provide superb service with a smile and positive personality! Job well done, Bhatti. I will definitely return!

The menu also caters to my lovely GLUTEN FREE people! Passo founder Steven Gray says Bhatti is one of his favorite go-to’s!

My favorite thing about Bhatti is the service. You can find good Indian food so many places in NYC, but you cannot find great service. The waiter and host went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of – our waiter informed me about the gluten content of every dish after I informed him of my gluten allergy. The fact that the staff even knew what “gluten free” meant places them levels above other Indian restaurants I have visited. The chicken tikka and chicken byrani were highlights for me, but everything they brought us was so good. I’ve ate here several times before and will continue to come back for the food (so good) and the experience.

For our main course we enjoyed the Chicken Tikki Massala, Mushroom B-Massla, Sag Paneer, dal batti, ron josh, with naan, and a lovely bottle of Mirza Ghalib 2013 Viognier: round, velvety, aromatic but dry with a final touch of vanilla. This is a unique product of France made for Indian cuisine.
