An Evening Trying Dum Phukt { Indian Food at Awadh }
I had the pleasure of checking out Awadh’s restaurant on the Upper West Side — and let me tell you, their food is SO GOOD.
I went with one of my favorite people and fellow blogger, Gina of What the Doost as well as our significant others. The space is small but in a perfectly intimate way, so it’s perfect for a date night (or in our case, double date). Awadh’s cuisine specializes in dum phukt, which is the art of slow cooking. I researched the cuisine after our visit, because I was seriously impressed by the fact that some meals take 10+ hours to cook and prepare. The coolest thing about Awadh is that while the cuisine is completely authentic to a specific region in India, it’s hard to find a place here to get it here in the city!
We tried a little bit of everything on the menu, and each item was delicious and completely flavorful. My favorites included: the galouti kebab, chatpati gohbi lehsuni, sufiana murgh biryaani, and lehsuni naan. The menu is a little daunting, but all of the servers are so knowledgeable, so go with a hungry stomach and open mind and you’ll leave happy!
Here’s a quick video I made on our experience. (I apologize in advance if I’m terrible at some of the pronunciation – I tried my best!!)
