Best Dressed at The Belmont!

Belmont Stakes What The Doost

What a day! To my surprise, The Belmont is an all day event that included 13 races this year with the famed Belmont Stakes as the main event. The day was blessed with perfect 80 degree and sunny weather with a gentle breeze allowing the crowd to dress up and below you will find our favorites! This is how New York kicks off summer: games, picnics, wagers, comfort food, drinks, and fancy hats!

Picking the PoniesThis year was a special one, most in attendance were rooting for California Chrome to win the final jewel of the Triple Crown! No horse has won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont in the same year since Affirmed pulled the triple in 1978.

We heard the crowd had a chance to break the record for the Belmont and most likely was well over 100,000 race fans in attendance.

While big bold hats are notably worn by many ladies at The Kentucky Derby, they are a popular accessory at The Belmont and we owe our thanks to Finchy Baby Hats for being showered in compliments by dozens of men and women through out the day!

We weren’t the only ones shining in style. Here are some of our favorites! Each ensemble combines their personal flavor with a timeless classic. They were vibrant, bold, and synced their individual style to their groups.  Well played!

When it came time to leave, the staff nor the police were prepared for the chaos that occurred. The LIRR stopped its service because the platform to board it almost collapsed under the weight of so many people. As we waited hours for a solution without being informed of anything, fights broke out, stampedes were in the making, and we were herded like cattle. Everyone was cranky, drunk, sweaty, cursing and hungry. Did I mention many of the vendors ran out of food and drinks!? We stood for hours until busses were called to transport us to the closest subway station. It took us over 4 hours and we might have been the lucky ones.

To top off the night, we met 3 great people on the train who also survived, thank you guys!

Was it all worth it? YES!
