The Menswear Collection at Milk Studios MADE, NYFW2014

MADE, fashion week 2014, Milk StudiosSunday night was all about the menswear presentations at MADE where they showcased three designers at Milk Studios. Pyer Moss, Highland, and Rochambeau’s Fall Winter 2014 collections rocked the house… literally. As a display of art is was passionate and beautiful to admire; however, these styles wouldn’t translate to the streets of New York.

My talented stylist, Farah Alimi, accompanied me and we let our instincts and curiosity lead our steps around the studio.

We had some fun with the lovely crowd including Miss J and Phil Sullivan from America’s Next Top Model.  We even played on stage at two of the presentations.

MILK< MADE< FW14Our favorite presentation was by Pyer Moss. Black and white gods! Most models are wearing glasses and I love the way it comes together. Each model is unique but as a whole picture they look like a team, a collection. I see a pinch of navy and a hint of gray. I see some rouge red. The leather is well-played. The looks are for the sophisticated new era man. Breakthrough! Most are rocking the black on black Timberlands with the exception of two in killer dress shoes. The pant cuts are the finest I’ve seen. I appreciate the variations.

I’m loving the collection for the detailed design that captures greatness and a subtle hint of one of my favorite classic cartoons, Charlie Brown.

I was invited onto the podium for a a great photo opp with the guys, thanks!

Welcome to Highland! If outer space had style it would rock the shit out of this collection!!

The clothes posses vibrant colors with bold shapes. This collection is in its own category of style, the future. I love it!!

Designers Lizzie Owens and partner Cramer Tolboe share:

The collection is a speculative fiction: What will our lives look like when climate change accelerates? What will it be like when we’ve given ourselves away in data online? When we’ve traded our privacy for transparency and social mobility? At the center of this fiction is a man: a Highland man…

A few beanie sacks are scattered through the floor in the shape of the Earth, creating the effect of being out in the Solar System for the audience. The soundtrack is of white noise and ‘alien’ sounds.

The most fun atmosphere was created by the Rochambeau Fall Winter 2014 presentation. This brand is a collaboration between two talented designers, Joshua Cooper and Laurence Chandler.

These native New Yorkers, Milk MADE describes as “skate kids at heart with a penchant for hip hop and Nike Dunks.” It’s the very sneakers that first sparked a conversation between the two designers a decade ago.

Their Fall/Winter 2014 collection is epic chic with a touch of roughness. The designers provide a street art grunge kind of ambience with a live band playing behind the white backdrop the models use as a background. Flashing lights and a fog machine create excitement. I love the use of the female model in their collection. The colors are basic, which I love, tied in with all white Nike Dunks covered in splashes of colorful paint.

These Milk MADE presentations have been a great escape from the standard fashion week shows. I’m looking forward to more!!!
