B.D. White fights for equality, is an inspiring artist, and is in a wheel chair.

Welcome to the world of artists. Williamsburg has turned into a tourist attraction because of all the creative energy.  The laid back vibe is contagious and the artsy crowd is almost addicting.

Some great minds reside there and among them is B.D. White. An artist for equality and a man who pushes limits.

Let’s be human beings!

Today I accompanied B.D. White and his helpful assistant Allen for a never before done/premier project. B.D. White posted in broad daylight, one of his biggest pieces on the infamous corner of Bedford ave and North 7th street.

Three police officers walked past us while B.D. White and Allen vandalized the corner in the middle of a Wednesday lunch hour.  B.D. White jokingly reminds Allen.

You see Allen! If this was at night it would have been a problem

The boys have had their run in with the cops before in SoHo where they were intimidated for 45 minutes.  The trick is, he says;

You have to act like you’re suppose to be doing this.

B.D. White is determined to spread his voice through his paintings. He is an inspiration and part of a lot of new beginnings.

He became paralyzed during a pole vaulting accident at the age of 18.  He planted the pole and rose to over 13 feet before he realized he didn’t plant right and his support gave out and crashed down onto his head.

As soon as I hit the ground I couldn’t feel my legs any more.

They used an electric drill and a caulk gun to seal the deal.

My dad said they would have to chisel it off.

This piece is one of his favorites, among 30, and the first he sold online. For more paintings click here for his webpage.

‘Let’s be human beings,’ was inspired by a documentary B.D. White saw titled Beautiful Losers.

This documentary follows the lives and careers of a collective group of Do-it-yourself artists and designers who inadvertently affected the art world.
