Breakfast With BCRF Experts & Survivors // A Look at the Survivorship Care Guideline

Breakfast With BCRF Experts & Survivors // A Look at the Survivorship Care Guideline

When a group of passionate people come together for a good cause — you get phenomenal results!

The staff, volunteers, doctors, nurses, and survivors are a great example of this. Together they’ve become the heart of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. They keep battling the good fight in order to bring awareness, find cures, and be the support system needed through this tough journey. BCRF remains the largest private foundation — for every dollar you donate, 91¢ goes directly to research.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM BCRF ║ THE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION

BCRF was founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993 — and since then — BCRF has been deeply involved in every major advance in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.

Thanks to Stephanie Kauffman and her wonderful BCRF staff — I attended another intimate gathering over breakfast held at the Kingside restaurant in the Viceroy Hotel, where we discussed facts, stats, updates, personal stories and more.

After a lovely introduction by Kauffman — Marc Hurlbert, PhD and Chief Mission Officer of BCRF,  started the session with honest and raw concerns. He addressed the issues cancer survivors endure — from body image to relationships, including how that affects their health. They outlined a very useful and updated guideline from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) that you can get more information on here.

With an estimate of 3.1 million survivors — an incredibly high and proud number to reach — BCRF is here to say ‘we understand and let us go through this together’.

One of the highlights was keynote speaker Nicole Seagriff, who shared her personal survivor story of being diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 27 and how it affected her love life and concerns for motherhood.

img-missionAs a result, she’s dived into raising funds for research and care, aiming to bring awareness amongst young professionals through The Pink Agenda – a non profit organization committed to raising funds for breast cancer research and care (BCRF).

Born of the belief that engaging today’s generation can go a long way toward finding tomorrow’s cure, The Pink Agenda finds, funds, and partners with people and programs that are improving the lives of those suffering from breast cancer and conducting the groundbreaking research necessary to improve their odds.
