Code to Inspire: Uplifting Afghanistan’s Women ║ Here’s How You Can Help!
Our team here at WtD is so honored to be a part of this non-profit! Join our journey to help make this world a better place for everyone ♡
New York, NY – On June 12, 2015, Code to Inspire launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $20,000 for the first coding centre for women by women in Afghanistan. This schooling facility will help women find their own structure through education, peace, and independence. “Our goals are to educate girls and young women in Afghanistan and economically empower them by helping them find employment so they can apply the skills they have learned at Code to Inspire.”
Code to Inspire was founded by Fereshteh Forough, an Afghan refugee, a Computer Science professor, and most recently a TED Talk speaker, who is on a mission to empower and educate women in Afghanistan.
Over the past 15 years, the perception of Afghanistan has been steered by the American media outlets portraying it as a source of evil – but people of a humanitarian nature with educated minds know the truth: that good and bad reside everywhere. This is a story about good and about the neglected percentage of Afghan women who strive for equality in their education and more!
Here is what will be accomplished by the campaign:
➊ Establishing a programming centre in Herat, Afghanistan which covers 50 girls daily.
➋ Providing 20 laptops for the centre.
➌ Providing 2 projectors and one printer, copy, and scan machine.
➍ Purchasing equipment for the classrooms (i.e. chairs, desks, stationery)
➎ Providing four expert mentors to teach the girls in our centre and assist them to become programmers.
Through Code to Inspire every single girl in their program will also “have an opportunity to access education and digital literacy and they will become ambassadors of peace, freedom, creativity and innovation.”
