To all my meat-lovers!
Have you heard of Brazilian Steakhouse style dining? If not, then just like me, you’ve been missing out! We were invited to
Fogo de Chão (fo-go dèe shoun), an authentic Brazilian steakhouse to experience their well known dinner.
Right in the heart of midtown and across from the MoMa, Fogo de Chao is more than just a exotic name with delicious high quality food–it has some of the best service I’ve experienced in Manhattan! The style is PERFECT for me because when it comes to food, I’m impatient. Also, sometimes indecisive so I tend to over order, but with Fogo de Chao they cater to my flaws and appetite by providing my meal at my pace.
This is how the dining experience works:
Step 1: Sit down, relax, and enjoy a drink while your server explains the Fogo® dining experience.
Step 2: Visit their gourmet salad and sides bar. Enjoy over 30 items including fresh cut vegetables, imported cheeses, cured meats, and Brazilian side dishes.
Step 3: Turn your card green side up, signaling that you are ready for the gaucho chefs to begin tableside service.
Step 4: Choose from the 16 cuts of meats that are brought to your table, sliced, and served by the gaucho chefs.
Step 5: When you are satisfied, flip the disc to the red side until you are ready for more meat.
Step 6: End the meal with one (or two) of their delicious desserts!
The decor is beautiful and I especially love that the dining room is located on the lower part of the floor with a slight view of the outside world where you can catch a glimpse of sunlight during daytime.
We started off with the enormous shrimp cocktail — fresh, high quality, and every bite was delicious!
Their salad bar was full of variations for every type of taste-buds from sea food to veggies and more! The salad bar even makes this a must try for vegetarians as long as they don’t mind you eating copious amounts of meat in front of their eyes.
My faves from the salad bar is among their newest selections including sugar snap peas, purple cabbage, and their watermelon, feta, and cucumber salad.
Jake Eldridge, one of wtD’s editors, joined us for the meal, had this to say about his experience:
The service was so good it was almost mystifying–gaucho chefs and servers at your side within seconds of flipping your service card, with a relentless cavalcade of perfectly grilled meat.
This goes doubly for the roving liquor trolley, which gave me one of the best whiskey discussions (not to mention one of the best whiskeys) I’ve ever had, with one of the most knowledgeable bartenders around.
The whole night was like entering some cavernous, wonderful new world.
Each course comes with its own side dishes including friend bananas, polenta fries, and garlic mashed potatoes. They offer a wide selection of sauces including chimichurri, bbq sauce, and fine mustard, and an extremely hot sauce if you can handle it.
My favorite part of this (and every) meal is dessert, seriously. No matter how full I am, I always enjoy a sweet finale. Brie came over to us with a display tray full of options that she assured would be dressed up before being served.
Brie highly recommended the key lime pie as well as the glazed pineapple dessert as well as their signature papaya cream because, well, aside from the fact I really wanted to try it, it’s also a great digestive–so yeah I totally had to try! Each and every bite was incredible as we shared our way through the 3 desserts we chose. The cream was better than expected as they topped it off with a sweet blueberry liqueur that you’ll just have to try yourself.
Fogo De Chao is great for when your family comes into town, a special nigh with a meat lover, and especially for business dinners when you really want to impress the clients.
Special thanks to our wonderful gaucho, Baba, and the manager, Ricardo, for such wonderful hospitality!
