I am the happiest with food and the best way to enjoy it is with great company and a family style dining experience! Last week my fiancé Jeff Fransen and I invited Ali Skye Bennet, a vegetarian, and Michelangelo Milano to share a unique dinning experience with us at Dinner on Ludlow in the Lower East Side of NYC, which is located on the ground floor of the DL Lounge.
Housed on the corner of Delancey and Ludlow, DOL offers a menu featuring modern comfort foods with a twist and an extensive list of brilliant cocktails.
Although I’ve been to the DL several times for private events during NYFW’s extravagance, I’ve never dined at their restaurant before. The DL has 3 floors and they all differ with unique decor. I really loved the classy and sexy appeal of the dinning room.
My suggestion is to start with signature drinks then gradually move into appetizers, meals, and most definitely leave room for dessert!
Three of my favorite appetizer dishes were the Braised Chicken Meatballs (their signature app), the Beet & Goat Cheese Salad, and the Risotto with asparagus and mushrooms.
Roasted Beets, Pine Nut Crusted Goat Cheese, Mache, and Piquillo Pepper Coulis
The risotto was better than expected, it looks heavy but isn’t. The fllavors are light and it melts in your mouth. This is a must have!!
Since we love family style so much we ordered a few side dishes with our first course as well: their famous brussels sprouts, rich mac and cheese, and my personal must have, parmesan truffle FRIES!!
Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Pecorino
Parmesan Truffle Fries
For the main course I highly recommend the Beef Stroganoff made with red wine braised short ribs, lemon thyme buttered egg noodles, and horseradish Crema. I loved the quality of the meat and the noodles really tied the earthy flavors together.
If you’re a burger-lover like me, I recommend theirs which is made with a combination of fresh ground short rib, brisket, and chuck on a English muffin. With your choice of white cheddar or gruyere cheese and red chili aioli.
For the vegetarians, Ali highly recommends the Vegan Bolognese and Truffle Mac & Cheese which she described as a dish with purpose!
As a vegetarian this is really fucking good!
Vegan Bolognese fettucini, red quinoa tomato sauce, grated macadamia nut
My favorite course was the dessert! As stuffed as we were from all the rich food, the taste of the sweet doughnuts and whipped cheesecake still kept me wanting more.
Pb&J Doughnuts peanut butter doughnuts with berry glaze
Soft Cheesecake made with Brown Butter Crumble, Strawberry Crumbs, Fresh Berries
This place is perfect for dates and gatherings with friends, especially since you don’t have to travel far (upstairs) for a dance party afterwards. There is enough variety in their comfort food for vegetarians and meat lovers alike!
Thank you to the wonderful staff Kai, Valentin, and Chef Colby Spike who made the experience truly an everlasting one.
We are adapting a philosophy of simple and timeless recipes that showcase great ingredients to give our customers a unique and unforgettable experience.
