forget what you know about motorcycles

not every ride is off into the sunset

the testosterone vibe mated with wrenching on bikes is lost here

she is intent on exploring the dark places

tapping into the sensuality of New York and the rhythmic pace of the city

holding tight to the idea that some of the best things happen

behind closed doors

after darkness falls

@UPFORADVENTURESS

Stan EvanOne of my favorite and most adventurous photographers, Stan Evans, brings more to his show than great angles. His vision is daring, loud, informative, part of the women’s movement, and more!  He has the ability to shoot soft, wild, and everything in between. His vision is unique and the journey is inspiring <3

Q&A

1.) What’s the inspiration behind the project @UPFORADVENTURESS ?

It actually started as a sequel to a west coast adventure I took called #upforadventure https://vimeo.com/46233859 I wanted to show the difference of riding in the East Coast vs. West Coast. In New York everything is on a grid, bridges are the main paths over waterways and the congestion is overwhelming. Within that, there are several commuters who tolerate that everyday for a few moments of freedom riding their motorcycle. In New York there I noticed there are a large amount of female riders so I wanted to explore that space as well. New York is also the hot bed of nightlife, fashion and culture so I just took them all and smashed them together.

2.) I love that you’re not the typical photographer, you go beyond the portrait style and you’re super adventurous. What aspect of the shoot is most fun for you?

I love seeing people out doing things. Whatever they may be passionate about and trying to capture that moment so I can pass it on to others yet I really like the quiet moments as well or I guess the paths that lead you there when the dust settles. I call those “the spaces in-between” I’ve been trying find more of those lately rather than focus on the “wow” factor. I love jobs where I get to combine both and show people the full spectrum of a scene. I guess my favorite part of those types of shoots is the time after I’ve been in a precarious situation and I get to really look at the shot – knowing that it made the photo how I was envisioning.

3.) What’s your next project on the horizon?

Well I just finished shoot for Columbia and it was nice because I got combine the two aspects of photography I just described.  Next I am going on a motorcycle trip from San Diego, thru Yosemite to San Fran up to the Redwoods and back down the Coast.  I’ll be taking photos and video along the way so you can check it @stanevansphoto and @upforadventuress and if you have suggestions of places I should check out or people I should meet along the way, hit me there. I love meeting new people and instagram has created a cool way for people to interact visually…
4.) Anything you would like to add =)

Thanks for the interview. I appreciate it and you taking the time to explore my photography, my lifestyle and my passions. I hope it resonates with people and inspires them to get out there and try something new.
