Brooklyn Sunsets by Kelley Louise
In my mind, April has always been the month where good weather seems guaranteed in NYC. Unfortunately, this year’s never-ending winter has proven me wrong and I’m definitely still hanging onto my SoCal roots and naive view of the weather. Fortunately (despite last week’s snow), I think spring is finally here and let me just say: It’s definitely my favorite season.
Growing up in San Diego, it’s easy to not think about having nice weather and how it’s a luxury. The majority of my high school memories are of 72 and sunny, beach visits and only wearing a jacket during the day if I wanted to accessorize. Now that I live in New York, I get to experience seasons and I (okay, I usually) like that my year is comprised of four seasons, not just one. One of my favorite part of seasons is how much you start to appreciate the nice weather once it finally does come around. Ultimately, I guess it’s like a yearly reminder to appreciate the good things in your life, much in the same way as traveling to Africa or a third world country makes you appreciate water or other small things.
Before moving to NYC, little did I know how much the sun’s pattern shifts throughout the year. From my roof, I get the most amazing views of the sunset during the spring and summer, but in the winter, the sun hangs lower and further south in the sky. So in the spirit of spring, here’s one of my favorite Brooklyn sunset photos I’ve taken:
