When all colors matter • the diversity during NYFW SS18
There’s a powerful message happening this Fashion Week and it goes beyond just women empowerment → it’s cultural, knowledgeable, and goes international!
This NYFW season, I wanted to target designers with a heart and passion for the world — whether it’s from their own homeland or inspired by travels. The world is such a beautiful and diverse place to live in. And to incorporate something that’s embedded into my roots — let’s talk Noon by Noor.
My mom is from Persia and my dad comes from Afghanistan — I identify strongly with my roots and stand proudly with the Asian Continent. One of the 7 and largest continents of the world, 60% of the total population of the Earth live there.
Diversity is important to me! Seeing people embrace, appreciate, and understand it gives us the ability to further advance in our lifetime. The world is painted full of passions from all over continents to form together for art. Shapes, patterns, and attitude take on a whole new level of empowerment. Young to veteran designers are breaking chains, one message at a time.
Who they are ↓
The impact that designers from the Middle East and Asia are having in the fashion industry is truly impeccable. A powerful family duo — designers Shaikha Noor Rashid Al Khalif and Shaikha Haya Mohammad Al Khalifa created Noon by Noor!
Modern and effortless with a focus on striking prints and intricate embellishments, Noon By Noor’s refined aesthetic fuses understated luxury with a playful femininity. Inspiration is drawn from both Eastern and Western influences with an emphasis on sharp tailoring, clean silhouettes and attention to detail.
The Inspiration ↓
Noor and Haya drew inspiration from their home country, Bahrain. Located in the continent of Asia, Bahrain is an island famed since antiquity. Their love and pride of their roots are expressed in the color palette of red and white, sketchbook print, embellishments and several silhouettes and shapes within the collection.
My fave looks ↓
This year they read my mind with the minimalistic feels. Loose, boho chic flows combined with a mix of soft and cold colors. Prints like their ladybug patterns had me at awe. Each look accompanied comfortable looking, yet chic flats. That’s my kind of style.
Check out my interview with them from their (and mine) very first NYFW! Yes, we popped that cherry together…
I love seeing how the fashion industry has come to appreciate and embrace cultures from all around the world! Making it more acceptable to just be yourself … we are all made differently but equally. I see it being applied in cosmetics, like Rihanna’s breakthrough Fenty makeup line. I see it in cuisines, like Bourdain‘s influence for adventure and curiosity. I see it on the streets — the arts and theaters. It’s truly an experience we all love to indulge in.
