A Rose to Help the Children // Kate Stoltz Gift to You
I designed the ‘rose to help the children’ scarf exclusively to help Developing Faces continue their mission. Surgical missions are very expensive, and in order for a charity to continue their work, they need to raise money every year to pay for the surgical supplies and costs. All of the proceeds from the scarf will go directly towards helping to fund the next surgical mission to Guatemala in March 2016.
This is perfect to give as gifts over the holidays, for birthdays, or just to tell someone that you care. Since all profits from these scarves will go directly to kids who need it, you’ll be getting a double win!
I want the scarf to be a fashionable way for people to give back. As customers and retailers become more aware of the effects that their fashion choices have on the economy and the Earth, my wish is that they will make smarter choices when buying and selling. I think consumers are going to start to want to be able to purchase high quality, desirable products that will help a cause – products that they would buy anyway, but now have the choice of choosing a for-profit or a not-for-profit item that will contribute to a good cause.
I am finding out that not everyone wants to donate to a cause if they don’t get anything in return, and I can understand that. I simply want to give people the option to help others when they make a purchase, and the scarf is my way of beginning that personal mission.
The design was inspired by the beautiful floating rose petals that I saw while visiting a monastery in Antigua, Guatemala. The culture there is so beautiful, natural, and inspired by nature — I knew that I had to incorporate that feeling into the scarf somehow. -Kate Stoltz
My involvement with Developing Faces began about a year ago when I met the former CEO of the charity. I had been wanting to get involved in a charitable cause for a while, but didn’t want to get involved in something that was for profit. I wanted to get involved with a charity that existed because they wanted to help people, not just because it was their job. I have since gotten very involved in the charity and spend my free time planning for missions and fundraising events. My life has become even busier than before, but I love helping and it gives me fulfillment.
