The Mets are riding high and Yankee fans are watching from afar, so in light of the baseball fan within us all — One of my top steak recommendations in NYC has to be the New York Yankee Steakhouse in midtown. A place where the love of food intertwines with the love of the game, all to bring you an unforgettable experience. If you see a Yankee fan in your life rooting for the Mets, please do them a favor and take them here asap. They’re used to pairing October with the Yankees.
Aside from the fact that you can find many of your favorite Yankee players and their game-changers, the NYY Steakhouse is a restaurant of quality with a relaxed state of mind.
Here’s my fav top 4 reasons I choose NYY for a great steak dinner:
➀ ambience
The ambience is very relaxing with a unique touch of America’s classic pastime — baseball. From the signatures and memorabilia on the walls.
There is even a display of knives beautifully pieced together, each knife belongs to a player or a Yankee executive with their names inscribed — the knifes are used by their namesake each time they dine here. That’s right, there’s a good chance you’ll be feasting on steak in the presence of a Yankee legend. Just saying.
One of the things I love the most about the ambience is the subtle way that every detail of the decor has a meaning. Even the plates are NYY themed!
➋ food
Wine — California — Cabernet/Sauvignon — antica by antinori, “Townsend vineyard” Napa 2009
Upon being seated we were greeted with hot bread — yes! Carbs and they’re hot — just the way I like it. Servers scan the floor with a fresh basket of right-out-of-the-oven baskets with butter. Our server Andrew was knowledgable and helpful and even the manager Erik Gonzaga stopped by our table. I asked him what his favorite part of working at NYY was:
Best part about working here is being a part of the family!
This Yankee owned establishment made every course a memorable one — we enjoyed the open kitchen style where you get a sense of how your food is being prepared. With a eye for quality no wonder this is a source of pride for Yankee employees and fans.
I was immediately loving their wine display, turns out there are 200 of them and all are found on your wine list.
They know that quality meat comes from quality barns so they source their cuts from local and closely known farmers.
So much steak it speaks for itself! Adding a touch of personalization is just another way of welcoming you to their home as you can get a special message carved into the bone!
And the side dishes are as creamy and delicious as they look!
I got a little ahead of myself with the entrees. Their appetizers are great, I really recommend starting off light with their NYY RAW BAR SAMPLER! If you’re a seafood lover or someone still testing the steak filled waters — this is it for you! They present you with a selection of their best and enough to make it a great starter for 2-4 people.
Since I couldn’t resist my inner cheesy heart — Hey cheese lovers! I’m talking to you — this soup puts you in french heaven topped with gruyere cheese. Their FRENCH ONION SOUP is a concoction of caramelized onions in a hearty broth with gruyere cheese.

When the dessert came around, I was in awe … real take-me-out-to-the-ball-game inspired dishes. We had their BROWNIE SUNDAE which is filled with vanilla ice cream, fudge brownies, Cracker Jack, pretzels, & chocolate sauce.
… and of course their New York Style Cheesecake with sour cherry compote, coffee syrup, graham cracker crust. The “cheese” part of it was SO fluffy! Mascarpone fluff!
➂ drinks
12 year old Jameson — love the large round ice cube “on the rocks”
Yankee blue with stuffed blue cheese olives — perfection!
➍ service & history
The history of the NYY comes alive in this place, by that I mean it’s where it’s most appreciated. After our meal, Erik even gave us a private tour of the four story amazement with a kitchen on each floor. We got to go down to the vault area too, turns out this building use to be a Swedish bank! The Yankees preserved as much of it as they could while adding memorabilia touches all around. From framed replica contracts to great photos of memorable moments.
So if you or someone you know loves the Yankees, I guarantee they’ll enjoy a NYY steak. I know the Mets fan and Red Sox fan I brought sure enjoyed theirs.
