Find Your Oysters Pearl ║ An App to Improve Your Oyster Selection
Hey doosts! This is for you sea foodies out there who fancy oysters!! These delicious little sea creatures are best fresh and from certain locations — they differ the way we humans do when it comes to heritage and regions, but it’s been a mystery of what you’ll find until you arrive at the restaurant.
I’m a oyster kind of girl which means I have my favorites depending on the type of oyster — and because of that I know not all sea food options are created equal — which makes me so thrilled to introduce an app to solve your oyster needs — Pearl!
I prefer my east coast oysters as opposed to west coast — I like them more meaty and less creamy. I love Empires and Kumamoto and of course anything celebrity chef Diane Dimeo puts in front of me.
For days I don’t have my celebrity bestie Diane Dimeo with me — With Pearl I can now know what variety to expect and with their up to date technology and relationship with establishments they are always steps ahead of us.
Pearl is a new app that helps diners learn about oysters they love and find nearby places to enjoy them. Based in New York City, this mobile-based platform serves to educate consumers and create awareness and availability of the food people want. Yes, this means they are expanding beyond oysters in the future. Pearl’s technology helps restaurants be more transparent about product availability and gives consumers access to real-time information.
I spoke with Sam Asher, founder of Pearl, during the launch and he explained that Pearl gives users a new way to learn about oysters and find what is available by aggregating real-time restaurant menu information in an easy to navigate app. The Pearl app is available immediately on iOS devices with an Android app coming soon.
At Pearl, we want consumers to enjoy and learn about oysters in the same way people learn about and enjoy wine.

Think Yelp like model where you can review & recommend but without all that complainers’ corner hassle. The Pearl app takes advantage of a unique mobile design to bring users a sleek and simple interface that allows them to search for their favorite oysters, locate restaurants nearby that have them on the menu, and learn about oysters in general. With a profile — so much is accessible and doable!
We believe that diners want more access to information about the seafood they are eating just as they do with other menu items. Our goal is to educate diners first by helping them learn about the many varieties of oysters so they better understand what they like allowing them to expand their dining horizons and enjoy the experience of eating oysters again and again.
— Sam Asher
As the app gains users, Pearl hopes to generate data on diner preferences and feedback that restaurant owners can use to make purchasing decisions. With this data, restaurants are able to know what diners want, which could drive better, more efficient ordering behaviors for restaurants and farmers.
Today, Pearl has more than 150 restaurants and oyster farmers participating in the app, including oyster hotspots in New York, Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago. Pearl will continue to add more restaurants and oyster farmers to help build an engaging and informative app experience.
