Curacao Original: Dhan Arts
Hello Doost!
One of the most memorable people we met on the island of Curacao is local artist Melissa Vijay Bharwani who presents Dhan Arts. All her pieces are original and authentic, each representing a piece of the island — full of vibrant color and heart!
I love doing artistic stuff because no one does it anymore.
On the Copperstone website, the official seller, it says:
She felt that there was a lack of local artwork available for the tourist to take home. She started painting different scenes from the island which Curacao is known for, then realized that there should be a easier way for someone to take home a piece of art. She started her line out with coffee mugs, that had her favorite paintings on them. They were a success, and slowly her line grew to a range of other items.
Melissa got her start at an early age where she would practice her artistic skills to pass time. Her parents quickly picked up on the talent and encouraged Melissa to sell her pieces in their store combining her arts with merchandise for people to enjoy different kinds of original souvenirs. Jeff and I got mugs and every time I use it I’m reminded of the serenity Curacao gave me.
Her art speaks to me, to be brave with your life and cherish your surroundings while still exploring the outside world. Melissa has a heart of gold that shines through in her personality, and it translates into all her pieces.
I love how she has combined the island life with it’s Dutch influence with her own version of Van Gogh’s famous Starry Night.
Her art comes in all sizes starting with tiny near postcard size paintings.
My favorites are the one of Ganesha, one of her many versions of the Starry Night with Curacao’s well known Handelskade incorporated, as well as the cats looking out at the vibrant colors of Handelskade.
Melissa takes requests and you can find her gallery at the World Trade Center in Piscaderaweg Curaçao.
Her art is also featured at one of the best restaurants on the island, De Gouverneur which sits directly across from the buildings they portray.
