Why We Love Hipsters │ Deva’s Few Favorites
People love to hate but I love to love. So this week I’m showing some love to a group of people that get as much love as they do hate. Hipsters. I think many of us have at least a little hipster in us wearing way to tight jeans listening to a July Talk song (yes that was a hipstery music reference I just made). I personally display a number of the hipster tendencies in my everyday life. So I want to celebrate the creature that is the modern day hipster!
➀ I adore the vintage/thrift culture. I grew up wearing hand me downs and thrifted clothes. In that I learned the value of recycle and reuse. As a society we throw away so much waste every year that could otherwise be put to good use. Our landfills are hidden away but they grow each year when it doesn’t need to be so. Hipster culture has given a second life to perfectly good clothes that otherwise would be in a landfill.
➁ The bar scene makes me smile. I am a firm believer in creativity in business. I’ve noticed in cities all over North America hipsters have created all kinds of interesting dens of drink and dance. I think hipster culture lends itself to funky business ideas (and I mean funky in the 70’s sense). Albeit ironic, it’s all fun and games when you get down to it. When create an establishment that supports a sillier sense of self it can be a blast.
➂ The hipster foodies. There are so many great restaurants pioneered by pickle loving hipsters. From burgers and fries to fun fusions, hipsters find a way to make food quality and creativity increase in their area. Not only do they come up with wondrous creations they use local ingredients and start from scratch. The idea of bringing artisan foods from pickled goods (so good for you) to seasonal deserts makes my heart sing. What I didn’t mention in the video is that I spent some of my youth on a farm and it showed me the value of conscious eating. Food is yet another thing hipsters bring to the table that I can certainly get behind!
