Contemporary Androgynous Style

As 2014 approaches, I think something worth talking about is androgyny, the blurred line between male and female. This is a concept that speaks loudly in the world of fashion. Designers worldwide are expressing the many faces of androgyny and it’s taking over our pop culture!

To be androgynous implies owning your comfort in your style, it’s about being fearless. This concept pushes the ‘it’ factor that makes you want to be and feel different. For girls it’s being unafraid to wear pieces like a big flannel shirt with a guys denim jacket and bringing it together with a feminine touch, like a skirt or cute bottoms. Taking the masculine suit and turning it into sex appeal for women might be my favorite. Take Miley Cyrus who sported the Versace suit look at the 2013 American Music Awards. She rocked it, owned it, and stayed classy with it, stunning and simple.

Boys and men of all ages, this includes you as well! Designers are shaking it up for you and indulging more into the feminine approach. For example London designer JW Anderson, has separate lines for womenswear and menswear, but views his work as unisex. Brilliant!

Designers are being more innovative and free to create. The boundaries are breaking down! For example, Anthony Alonzi is sporting a DKNY coat with a fur coat, and black simple look in the subway. Showing no fear and embracing himself!
