To the delight of Family Guy fans everywhere, Brian made a triumphant return in last night’s episode. It appears that the revival was all part of the original plot and not a response to the online uproar or even the 128,000+ signatures on the change.org petition. It looks like it was actually an important teaching moment.
Stewie got the ball rolling by telling a mall Santa that his only wish was to get his best friend back:
“I want my friend back, my best friend, my dog, Brian; he’s dead. It’s our first Christmas without him…”
Stewie managed to go back in time and save Brian from getting hit by the car. After saving Brian, the time traveling Stewie vanished leaving the original Stewie unaware that anything ever went wrong.
A grateful Brian gushed on Christmas morning, “you’re my best friend, and I love you.”
Stewie responded sharply, “all I can say, Brian, is you’ve been making really creepy eye contact with me all morning, and I want it to stop right now.”
It turns out that there was a real lesson to be learned as Family Guy creator MacFarlane tweeted, “and thus endeth our warm, fuzzy holiday lesson: Never take those you love for granted, for they can be gone in a flash.”

Remember that this holiday season and beyond, for it is a timeless lesson.
